Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (remove antivirus 2008 2009 2010, security tool, and fake antivirus programs)
19 11 2008

Rogue anti-virus applications are popping up everywhere. When you click on a website that you Googled for, it looks like a valid site but then asks you to install anti-virus 2008 or 2009. This virus also comes through as an email that looks like a UPS invoice, Airline ticket, or some other official looking email.

These fake anti-virus programs are usually installed by inexperienced internet users.
Originally when these fake anti-virus programs first started coming out, I tried to remove the virus, files, and registry keys with little success, I would usually end up rebuilding the PC.
One day I thought, there has got to be a better way, that’s when I came across Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, I tried it and now I live by it. This application will remove all traces of these fake anti-virus applications and it’s easy to use.
How to use
1. Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
2. Update the definitions by clicking the update tab then > check for updates.
3. On the scanner tab click scan.
4. Once the scan has finished, click view results then remove selected

Yea.. MBAM Is a good application. I have it and recommend other users to try out this great Application . I love it. I have MBAM And AVG On my Pc.. They Both Do A Great Job. I recommend People to use this.
After trying to remove the windows antivirus 2008/2009 manually, which did not work, I downloaded and ran malwarebytes. It completely removed all traces of that annoying piece of crap “antivirus,” I recommend it for all!
Hi Ryan,
Thanks for letting us know.
It has worked great for us a well.
Hey, tried MBAM for this malware and it doesn’t work for me.
Having probs with antivirus 2009, which I never downloaded but it found its way onto my pc somehow.
It detects it, and after I click remove and it goes through the process, the pc reboots and all looks clean again.
Then it shuts down windows, and when I reboot infections are back in place.
I tried disconnecting from the internet, it seemed promising and while was offline ran ccleaner while offline, but when I hook up the cable the crap flows in and makes itself at home again.
Also it seems to disable my Avast and Spybot programs.
Maybe you have the Confiker virus.
Go to http://www.confickerworkinggroup.org/infection_test/cfeyechart.html and check.
Also, make sure you are updating to the latest database version on MBAM
NovaShield is different. It’s a behavior-based antivirus program. That means it actually scrutinizes a program’s behavior and examines how a it’s acting in real time to detect if it’s any type of malware or virus. That includes spyware, botnets, Trojans, keyloggers, rootkits and worms.
PCmag called NovaShield “A total flop” check it out for yourself.

You are somewhat correct about the Malewarebyte Anti-Malware software.
But I have to disagree with you.
Yes that program works good.
With these fake anti-viruses though, it’s not going to find the file trying to get you to get the program.
You also shouldn’t have to rebuild your computer.
I’m going to be writing an article about it, you should view my site within the next few days for a notification of my article.
Hey , My FAKE ANTI MALWARE is without a 2009 or 2008 , can it still work ? Also , my windows security alret keeps on showing up with virsus . What should i do ?
Hi Mathew,
Malwarebytes should still work because you still have some form of Malware.
Andy
I have the fake Antimalware program, and ran Malwarebytes to clean out all the infected files but when I try to update AVG to version 9.0, in installation it states that it has a conflict with the program “Antimalware”. Just wondering if i can get this virus completely off my computer, because running Malwarebytes hasn’t cleared out this warning about “Antimalware”.
Malwarebytes can’t always get everything off every time but, make sure that you’ve updated it and run a full scan.
Other programs that have worked when Malwarebytes doesn’t are Nod32 and VIPRE both have free trials.
Give them a try.
How do you download the Malwarebytes software when the virus doesn’t let you do anything. Everything I try to do just takes me to the page where I am supposed to give my credit card info to purchase.
Hi Libby,
You can try downloading Malwarebytes on another computer and loading it through a USB drive.
You could try the kaspersky Rescue Disk You would likely need another computer to download and burn the disk, you would then boot from the disk to remove viruses.
Another thing that you could try is, while the computer is booting, tap the F8 key until you get to a menu and select “safe mode with networking” you may be able to download and run the software that way.
